New Fallon park closer to opening

The Seabees at the Fallon Naval Air Station have completed more than 1,000 man-days of donated labor on what they nicknamed Liberty Park.
The park, located at the University of Nevada, Reno's Newlands Research Center near here, is a cooperative effort between UNR and the county.
The Seabees created a one-acre fish pond complete with pier, parking lots, restrooms, a concession stand and fencing, the Lahontan Valley News and Fallon Eagle Standard reported.
Plans now call for the county to begin leveling and seeding the nine acres of athletic fields.
"The county couldn't have this kind of facility without your help," Parks and Recreation Director Jim Moore told Seabee Operations Chief Michael Espisito during a recent walk-through at the park.
Park officials hope to open the fish pond in May and the fields in the fall.
