Letter: Minimum-wage jobs intended for teens, not family support

Friday, Jan. 2, 1998 | 10:55 a.m.

There is no appreciation expressed at all; it's as if it is owed to them. These minimum-wage jobs are not meant to support a family. Most minimum-wage jobs are intended for teenagers trying to earn extra money or for somebody already gainfully employed to supplement their income.

When I was a teenager the minimum wage was $3.35 an hour. Even then I couldn't fathom raising a family on that. More than $5 an hour is a blessing for today's youth.

If you are not happy with what you are doing or the money you make, then get off your tail and do something about it. These people are content to settle for the minimum, that is why the minimum is not enough.
