Letter: Handicapped individuals need more consideration
Friday, Feb. 27, 1998 | 10:30 a.m.
I'm 45 years old, bedridden and legally blind. I have gotten in touch with several organizations for a computer that I can get a magnifying glass to fit over. That way I can get on the Internet and get in touch with other people with multiple sclerosis and also be able to get information on other sources that can help other people with disabilities to be able to get information that they need. All they want to give you here -- and charge you for it -- are old computers that don't let you use the Internet. If someone is willing to help me, I would like one that I can use in my lap.
Also, I want to say one more thing. I think these people who use handicapped parking may have a handicapped person in their family. That person isn't in the car, but they think they are entitled to use the spot anyway. These people need to stop and think they are taking that place away from someone who really needs it.
Also, to those people who park in between handicapped cars where the lines are: Don't they know that this is for people who are in wheelchairs? Now they know. And the people who block ramps, they have no respect for anyone who uses a wheelchair, cane or crutches.
