On Tuesday, corrections officers at the Clark County Detention Center where Strohmeyer, 19, is being held did a random search of housing units and found the contraband in Strohmeyer's second-floor cell, jail Capt. Henry Hoogland said.
The Long Beach, Calif., teen-ager was removed from the second floor, where he was in protective custody, to the fifth floor, which inmates refer to as "the hole."
Hoogland said the fifth floor is used as a disciplinary housing unit.
Because of the cigarettes and lighter found in Strohmeyer's possession, Strohmeyer's privileges "have been reduced significantly," Hoogland said.
Privileges include making personal phone calls, using shower facilities at will and watching television, Hoogland said.
Sherrice Iverson was sexually assaulted and strangled in a handicapped stall inside a women's restroom near a video-arcade at the Primm Valley Hotel in Primm, southwest of Las Vegas.
Strohmeyer was arrested May 28 after schoolmates recognized him on casino surveillance videotape released to the media in Los Angeles.
