Letter: Congress interested in self-preservation
Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998 | 11:24 a.m.
What happened with campaign reform? After the disgrace of foreign influence in the last election, we hear little debate from Republicans or Democrats.
Why did the House of Representatives vote down, 210-200, a pilot plan to ensure, by presenting identification, that registered voters are citizens? Why was a two-thirds majority rule imposed when thousands of abuses have been uncovered in the Citizenship USA program?
Are politicians, Republican and Democrat, more interested in re-election than the sanctity of the vote?
