* THE FIELD: 36 cars possible. Fastest 31 cars qualify through time trials. Two provisional starting positions based on 1997 NASCAR Winston West Series driver points standings, two provisional starting positions based on 1997 NASCAR Winston West Series car owner standings, one provisional starting position to any NASCAR Winston West Series champion.
