Russo: ‘No one cares’ about DMV violations

RENO -- Aaron Russo, a Republican candidate for governor, says it's no big deal that he drove with an expired driver's license and ignored Nevada law in failing to get a new permit when he moved to the state in 1996.
A new resident is required to get a Nevada driver's license within 30 days.
Russo says he moved to Nevada in August 1996. At that time, his driver's license from Ohio had expired in February 1996. He drove on the expired license for one year.
He didn't apply for a Nevada license until March 14, 1997, according to records in the state Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety. That's seven months after he started to live here.
Russo told the Reno Gazette Journal, "I don't know why it's so important. I did have residency and I was living here.
"Not getting my driver's license in time? I didn't rob a bank, did I? This is stupid. No one cares."
Russo said he had a valid driver's license from Tahiti in the South Pacific. But the motor vehicle department says that's only good for non-residents who are in this country.
