Letter: Assemblywoman demonstrates she’s a loving, caring parent
Friday, Feb. 20, 1998 | 11 a.m.
Suddenly, this was snatched away. Along with it, a two-term assemblywoman was told verbally, and shown by punitive action, that she was no longer, if ever, capable of acting responsibly in her daughter's behalf.
Katie became an unwilling victim or prisoner of a caring and loving system that kept her away from any familiar friends and neighbors immediately following a major surgery. Any visits were, and are monitored, so privacy is a dead issue now with Katie.
I feel that if the alleged conditions/charges (improved health treatment, hygiene and home schooling) are well-founded, Genie Ohrenschall would gladly comply with the recommendations, because she dearly loves her daughter and wants the best for her.
A registered voter in Genie Ohrenschall's district introduced me to her. She is definitely a loving and concerned parent.
Perhaps Katie will not have to wait until she is 18 to talk to her mother alone or to use the phone without approval. After all, she is not 2 years old, nor is she a criminal.
