Letter: Sexual orientation has no place in civil rights

The most recent example involves our school district, which is being pressured to add sexual orientation to its list of unacceptable harassment categories.

To the west, California has already included sexual orientation in its list of traits and characteristics that cannot be discriminated against.

Three thousand miles away, on Capitol Hill, legislators are planning a strategy to add sexual orientation to the list of federal protections in the Civil Rights Act with the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

My question is this: Why has behavior become a civil rights issue? And why are we letting a group of individuals who are determined to reshape our nation's laws and foundations get away with it, thereby creating a new morality for our country? Have we come to the point in our reasoning that we believe sexual orientation, or homosexual activity as it used to be called, is good for society? That's a scary thought.
