Letter: Government malfeasance warrants public cynicism
Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998 | 11 a.m.
-- elected or appointed officials who are indicted to one crime or another.
-- Congress pretending to be shocked at IRS abuses, as if they didn't know.
-- our representatives vote their own wage and retirement increases to ensure their well-being and pilfer money from Social Security investment funds which puts our retirement in jeopardy.
The administration ignores the more serious drug and alcohol problems of our youth and, after creating mass hysteria over secondhand smoke, limits its money-grab to taxing smokers.
They are still trying to cram socialized medicine down our throats at our expense.
They brag about unemployment, which does not include the millions who are homeless.
You can bet your bippy I am cynical. On a scale of 0 to 10, my trust of politicians at the national level is 0; at the local level, it is 1. For this reason, I rarely vote for self-serving incumbents who are not working at protecting my freedoms.
How can Brian Greenspun expect people to have reverence and respect for an oppressive, corrupt and intrusive government that is intent on micro-managing every aspect of our lives?
It appears that his friendship with the Clintons has blinded him to their shortcomings. Either that or he tends to favor the socialistic and Big Brother trend that is ongoing in America.
