Lloyd H. Anda Sr., 68, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born April 24, 1929, in Edmore, N.D. A resident for seven years, he was a retired 36-year GTE Telephone Company engineer, a Marine Corps veteran, a member of the Elks of San Bernardino, Calif., and Las Vegas, the Senior Citizen Skaters at the Santa Fe hotel-casino and the Las Vegas Sons of Norway.

He is survived by his wife, H. Patricia; one daughter, Cindy Becker of San Bernardino; two sons, Lloyd "Bud" Anda Jr. of Las Vegas and David Anda of San Bernardino; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

JAMES J. BALSANO JR.

James J. Balsano Jr., 83, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born April 3, 1914, in Plainfield, N.J. A resident for 11 years, he worked for the federal government 19 years and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, serving as a tail gunner.

He is survived by one son, James J. Balsano III of Las Vegas; one daughter, Barbara Banning of Groveville, N.J.; four granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

JUANITA BERRY

Juanita Berry, 71, of Henderson died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 14, 1926, in West Virginia. A resident for 3 1/2 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; two daughters, Debra Sterns of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Laura Taylor of Pasadena, Texas; and one sister, Nancy Lyons of Port Orange, Fla.

Burial will be private. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

ELLEN M. BROWN

Ellen M. Brown, 93, of Pahrump died Saturday in Pahrump. She was born July 28, 1904, in Ohio. A resident for 20 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by four sons, Roland Strote of Pahrump, Vincent Strote of Acompa, Calif., Dale Strote of Las Vegas and Vern Lampman of Tacoma, Wash.; one sister, Betty Teets of Mesa, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Pahrump Valley Methodist Church. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

EDITH ELLIS

Edith Ellis, 81, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 21, 1916, in Victor, Colo. A resident for 39 years, she enjoyed her family, traveling and spending time in San Felipe, Mexico.

She is survived by one son, Bob Ellis of Henderson; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 2 p.m. services Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will be in California. Metcalf Mortuary, Logandale, is handling arrangements.

HELEN AKANA GERARDO

Helen Akana Gerardo, 91, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born in Manila, Philippines. A resident for 48 years, she was a retired housekeeper at Circus Circus and a former member of the Culinary Union.

She is survived by one daughter, Aurora Crupelle; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 8 a.m. Saturday in Carmel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Chapel. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

SAMUEL L. HORNBECK

Samuel L. Hornbeck, 35, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born April 27, 1962, in Elko. A resident for 33 years, he was a health care worker and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; his parents, Lloyd and Joan Hornbeck, and one stepdaughter, Amanda Bosley, all of Las Vegas.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, 5825 El Dora. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

LOUIS J. LATONA

Louis J. Latona, 78, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 15, 1920, in Missouri. A resident for 21 years, he was a dry cleaner.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Cheryl Nordeen; one brother, Vic Latona; one sister, Kay Montasano; and one grandchild.

ANDREW J. MCCAMBRIDGE

Andrew J. McCambridge, 79, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 20, 1918, in Chicago. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and World War II and Korean War veteran and a member of the Elks Lodge in San Diego.

He is survived by his wife, Winifred A.; two daughters, Evalena A. Near of Las Vegas and Maria A. Jankowski of Latham, N.Y.; one stepson, Robert A. Krueger of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

DORA L. NEWTON

Dora L. Newton, 53, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. She was born March 20, 1944, in Lake Village, Ark. A resident for 32 years, she was a porter at the Horseshoe hotel-casino.

She is survived by seven sons, Charles Freeman Jr., Anniah Randolph Jr., William Randolph, Stacey Randolph, Jeffery Randolph, Admond Turner and Carl B. Freeman, three brothers, Sylvester Warren, Cordie Johnson and George Johnson, and three sisters, Rachel Neal, Betty Johnson and Emma Johnson, all of Las Vegas; 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled noon-8 p.m. Thursday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Greater New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. A private burial will follow.

ILENE JOYCE PETERSON

Ilene Joyce Peterson, 64, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 27, 1933, in Fond du Lac, Wis. A resident for three years, she was a retired 25-year schoolteacher and a volunteer for Lutheran Social Services.

She is survived by three sons, Alan Peterson of Cypress, Calif., David G. Peterson of Bloomington, Minn., and Paul Peterson of Atlanta; one daughter, Helen Peterson of Winthrop, Minn.; one sister, Shirley Gielow of Anaheim, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

Edith "Queenie" Queen, 81, of North Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 26, 1916, in Magnet, Neb. A resident for 5 1/2 years, she was a retired hospital cashier.

She is survived by one daughter, Cozette Todd of Las Vegas; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Merian Rae Sisk, 75, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. She was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Beaumont, Texas. A resident for 15 years, she was a retired upholsterer for a furniture repair business.

She is survived by two sons, Chester Pugh and Bob Pugh, and one daughter, Andria Knaak, all of Henderson; four brothers, Roger Sisk of Salinas, Calif., Gary Sisk of San Jose, Calif., Burton Sisk of Redlands, Calif., and Lawrence Sisk of Corona, Calif.; one sister, Agnes Goucher of Oregon; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

MAY DUGGAN STEELE

May Duggan Steele, 80, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local care center. She was born May 22, 1917, in Porterville, Calif. A resident for nine years, she was a retired musician.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann Pakala and Sharon D. Basham, both of Las Vegas; one son, George Thomas Steele III of California; two brothers, Hugh Duggan and Joe Duggan, both of Porterville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM ARTHUR THAYER JR.

William Arthur Thayer Jr., 89, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 25, 1908, in Robinson, Ill. A resident for 40 years, he was a retired 21 dealer, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by two daughters, Jackie Still of Cedaredge, Colo., and Betty Shults of Las Vegas; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Memory Gardens. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

BOBBY TURNER

Bobby Turner, 60, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 16, 1937, in Harlin, Ky. A resident for 44 years, he was a security officer and an Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma; four sons, Lawrence Daniels III, Anshawn Turner and Clyde Turner, all of Las Vegas, and Les Daniels of New York; four daughters, Valorie Williams, Gina Fountain and Chevelle Turner, all of Las Vegas, and Jackie Turner of Massachusetts; two brothers, Paul Howard of Kentucky and Dan Howard of Connecticut; one sister, Janelle Harris of Kentucky; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-5 p.m. Sunday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Ebenezer Church of God in Christ.

EDWARD ALBERT WAKELEY

Edward Albert Wakeley, 67, of Las Vegas died Feb. 7 in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 10, 1931, in Iran. A longtime resident, he was self-employed.

He is survived by one daughter, Cresta Wakeley of Richmond, Calif.

ROSIE WILLIAMS

Rosie Williams, 84, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born May 6, 1913, in Raleigh, Miss. A resident for 43 years, she was a homemaker and a choir member with New Bethel Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Ollie Keyes-Hayes of North Las Vegas; one stepson, Charlie Lee Williams of Las Vegas; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-8 p.m. Friday in Bunker Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in New Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Eden Vale Memorial Park.

CRAIG WRIGHT

Craig Wright, 46, of Las Vegas died Jan. 16 in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 5, 1951.

Services were private. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Bunker Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, handled arrangements.
