A man police were about to arrest on an attempted murder warrant tried to run over a Metro Police officer Wednesday night before making a getaway, police said.
Detectives had 28-year-old Domingo Crespo-Soca under surveillance. He was wanted on charges of attempted murder and for violating probation on a concealed weapons charge.
Detectives on foot approached the car in which Crespo-Soca was sitting, police said. They identified themselves as police officers and ordered the suspect out of the car at gunpoint, Capt. Charlie Davidaitis said. A detective opened the driver's door as Crespo-Soca began driving away, he said.
"The detective attempted to disable the vehicle by firing three rounds at the suspect's right rear tire to keep from being run over by the suspect," Davidaitis said. "The suspect then put the vehicle in drive and sped away. The vehicle was located in an alley two blocks away with a bullet in the tire. The tire was flat, and the suspect was missing."
He said Crespo-Soca is believed to be armed and is considered dangerous.
"If he is seen, citizens are urged not to contact hm, but to call police," Davidaitis said.
Police have asked anyone with information to call the detective bureau at 229-3528.
