Basic High School completed the girls soccer playoff picture on Tuesday night, downing visiting Rancho, 4-3, to earn the Sunrise Division's third seed and knock the Rams out of contention.
Wolves' midfielder Ciera Diaz scored three unassisted goals in the first half, as the hosts took a 3-2 lead into the break. Rochele McLean tallied Basic's final goal to ice the victory.
Rancho's loss lifts idle Silverado into the division's fourth and final berth into the upcoming Southern 4A Zone Tournament.
"Rancho was a little upset, but we were excited," said Wolves' coach Debra Jamison, whose club will face Bonanza in round one on Saturday. "They knew they were going to zone, but they really wanted to go third so they didn't have to match up with Gorman right away."
Instead, undefeated Gorman will face Silverado, with tournament host Green Valley taking on Durango and Chaparral squaring off against Cimarron-Memorial.
