Letter: Don’t impeach president over sexual indiscretions

Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998 | 10:57 a.m.

Let those without sin cast the first stone. Who really cares about President Clinton's sexual escapades? If his wife can stand by him through these accusations, why can't we? Men have always been weak where women were concerned. Adam could have said to Eve, "I will not partake of the apple. God forbade us to eat that fruit, and I will obey Him." But he didn't.

If we can believe the media, Roosevelt's mistress was with him when he died. Eisenhower had a mistress during World War II. Both John and Robert Kennedy had Marilyn Monroe (among others) and Peter Lawford was involved in some way. We just took that information in stride.

I have two questions: Why did Paula Jones wait so long to air her allegations? What was she doing in a married man's hotel room?

Regarding Monica Lewinsky's alleged affair: She was past the age of legal consent. If I had had an affair with a married man, I, too, would deny it. With friends like Linda Tripp, who needs enemies? Regarding Clinton's denial: If these accusations are true, here is a man who does not "kiss and tell" and brag about his conquests.

If we are going to impeach the president let's do it on his involvement in the Whitewater and savings & loan scandal, not on his sexual escapades.
