At a state Board of Examiners meeting, the governor abstained from voting on a $434,182 tax refund for Newmont Gold Co., saying he might have some "prospective involvement" with the company.
Asked to elaborate, a spokesman for Miller said after the meeting that the governor's only additional comment about Newmont was that he had been approached about "doing some things with them after the 4th." Gov.-elect Kenny Guinn will be sworn into office Jan. 4.
Miller said in a recent interview that he's considering options such as practicing law, government consulting and serving on corporate boards. Even though he has inherited wealth, doing nothing isn't in the cards.
The Democratic governor also said he hopes to stay involved in politics "to some degree, wherever I can help."
In addition to his 10 years as governor, Miller served two years as lieutenant governor, seven years as Clark County district attorney and four years as a justice of the peace. He also was a deputy prosecutor for two years and a legal advisor to Las Vegas Metro for two years.
