Letter: Proceedings cast shame on nation
Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998 | 10:42 a.m.
John F. Kennedy had women running in and out of the White House, like cold and hot water, and the only reason it didn't become a scandal was because he was from a very affluent and powerful family.
Clinton should not have lied under oath, I agree. Maybe his definition of sexual intimacy is different than most people's. I admonish the Republican Party for even thinking of impeachment. This was the president's personal life and in no way breached his duties as president of the United States. It's a shame that this will go down in our history books, as "Zippergate."
The House and Senate should stop this witch hunt because that's all it is. They should look at the positive things he has done. Plus the fact they are using and wasting a lot of money.
What are they going to do to balance the books? Borrow from the substantial overflow in the Social Security fund, the money that rightfully belongs to the "notch babies"? I am ashamed and appalled at these hearings for impeachment even existed. Let the first man without sin cast the first stone. I'll bet if you rattled their cages you would find a skeleton or two.
I am proud to be an American, but sometimes I am ashamed of what our government does and how they do it.
