WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- A three-point performance from defenseman Brett Hauer helped the Manitoba Moose defeat the Las Vegas Thunder 4-2 Sunday in an International Hockey League game.
A crowd of 5,689 watched the game at Winnipeg Arena, as well as the end-of-game brawl that resulted in 12 game misconduct calls and a total of 164 penalty minutes assessed.
Scott Thomas' empty-net goal, at 19:47 of the third period, set off the fighting, which spread from the ice to the penalty boxes to the benches.
Hauer and Sheldon Kennedy each had a goal and an assist in the second period to help Manitoba put the game away.
Kent Fearns scored on a power play 5:43 into the game to tie the score at 1-1. Center Stefan Ustdorf, making his first start since recovering from a knee injury, had a hand in both Las Vegas goals.
He assisted on Russ Romaniuk's game-opening tally at 5:29 of the first period, and scored late in the second to pull the Thunder within one goal at 3-2.
Christian Bronsard posted the win in goal with 23 saves on 25 Las Vegas shots.
Thunder netminder Scott Langkow, who spent the final seconds of the game in the dressing room after receiving a game misconduct, stopped 31 of 34.
