Letter: GOP will pay at next election
Monday, Dec. 21, 1998 | 10:33 a.m.
Evidently it doesn't speak for millions of other people, either. The GOP hasn't done a darn thing in the last six years, except try to get rid of President Clinton. It's members haven't done a thing for the people who elected them in office.
The Republicans have really shortchanged the people. About the only thing they have done is give themselves a raise while we struggle to make ends meet. And they don't care if they make the United States a laughingstock.
There is a new breed of Republicans coming up through the ranks, and theirs is not the hard-nosed brittle relics who have had a foothold in Congress. There are too many rich people out there, and they can't all buy Washington, like the Rockefellers and the Doles did. It's anybody's game now.
They talk about the Constitution. Those old relics have been changing it for years to suit their own needs. It certainly wasn't done for the American people.
And another thing: Retiring Gov. Jim Edgar of Illinois thinks it's not going to make a difference in 2000. He thinks the people are stupid and won't remember what the Republicans did. I say, wait and see.
