Monday, Dec. 21, 1998 | 11:58 a.m.
The Indianapolis Star/News reported one of the studies will look at whether there has been an increase in bankruptcies because of gambling. Indiana University's Center for Urban Policy and the Environment will survey people filing for bankruptcy in Indianapolis, Evansville and South Bend.
Another study will compare the level of gambling in a given area with the number of mortgage defaults, the incidence of spousal and child abuse and other problems.
Another study will examine if Indiana is too dependent on gambling tax revenue.
The economic effects of the industry, which employs 13,000 people in Indiana, will be studied as well, the Star/News reported.
