County board OKs land use proposal

Friday, Dec. 18, 1998 | 11:27 a.m.

The Clark County Planning Commission Thursday in a 6-1 vote approved an amendment to the Lone Mountain Land Use Plan in an effort to keep it consistent with the city of Las Vegas' general plan for the northwest area of the valley.

The amendment, which was approved earlier by the city, changes the boundary of the Town Center and designated other areas for future expansion.

The area west of Durango Drive and north and south of Iron Mountain Road also will go from a planned community development designation to desert rural at the request of area residents.

Commissioner Bernard Malamud opposed the amendment.

In a related matter, planners unanimously approved a transportation amendment to the county's comprehensive plan in an effort to provide access to the Town Center project while maintaining low traffic volumes within the development.

The change, despite residents' concerns, will connect Durango with El Capitan Way south of Centennial Parkway and the proposed beltway.

Both items will be presented to the County Commission for final approval Jan. 20.
