Names suggested for three new high schools

Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998 | 11:10 a.m.

The naming of three new high schools, scheduled to open next fall, will be on the agenda when the Clark County school board meets Thursday.

District spokeswoman Mary Stanley-Larsen said the School Name Committee, which met last week, has recommended the following names be adopted:

-- Centennial High School, at Centennial Parkway and Hualapai Way.

-- Desert Pines High School, at Washington Avenue and Sandhill Road

-- Foothill High School, in Henderson.

The School Name Committee meets on an as-needed basis to name new schools in Clark County.

According to district policy, elementary schools are named for prominent citizens or educators, middle schools for Clark County pioneers or prominent citizens, and high schools for geographic features within Southern Nevada.

Also, portions of high school facilities, such as libraries, athletic fields and theaters, may be named for district employees or citizens who have made specific contributions to education in Clark County.
