Clarence Elliott professed his innocence at his sentencing Monday. He was convicted of killing Barbara Turner-Elliott, who disappeared after shopping at a grocery story.
Family and friends of the woman launched a massive search, which ended in May 1996 when her bullet-riddled body was found in a wash near Red Rock Canyon.
The husband was indicted a year later on a murder charge.
Friends said Elliott appeared unconcerned about his wife's disappearance and she had been planning on divorcing him.
