Brief: Ex-teacher says hospital divulged suicide attempt

Friday, Dec. 11, 1998 | 11:57 a.m.

"Jane Doe" filed the suit in U.S. District Court, alleging breach of contract, breach of confidential information and breach of physician-client relationship. The teacher attempted suicide in September 1996 by ingesting a tranquilizer.

Doe alleges a hospital employee, Lisa Amato, had improper access to Doe's medical records and later began harassing Doe about the incident and telling people in Nye County. Doe alleges Amato confronted her at Silver Rim Elementary School, where Doe was a teacher.

The suit further alleges that former hospital administrator Roger Mayer also divulged medical information. Neither Mayer nor Amato were named as plaintiffs in the suit.

Mayer is no longer the administrator of the hospital and Quorum Health Resources, which the suit says formerly managed the hospital, is no longer affiliated with the medical center, a hospital spokesman said.

Attempts to locate Mayer and Amato for comment failed. Doe, now a resident of Colorado, seeks damages in excess of $75,000.
