AG takes Toys-R-Us settlement in gifts for needy kids

Friday, Dec. 11, 1998 | 9:33 a.m.

The partial settlement involves toy-maker Hasbro and the retail company Toys-R-Us.

Under the settlement with 43 states including Nevada, those companies will provide toys to settle the court case accusing them of anti-trust violations.

"Nevada's portion of the settlement includes $21,266 worth of toys," said Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa.

She said the toys will be donated to the Toys for Tots programs for distribution statewide.

In addition, she said the Nevada Bureau of Consumer Protection will receive more than $14,000 in cash to cover legal costs.

The suit was filed by attorneys general nationwide claiming the companies were guilty of a conspiracy to artificially inflate toy prices.
