Lahontan trout researcher dead at 49

Vinyard, a biology professor for 20 years, devised a plan for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to enhance stocking of the endangered species into the Truckee and other area waterways after an absence of several years.
Vinyard, who died in his sleep early Wednesday, is survived by his wife Deidre, director of the UNR intensive English language center, a son and a daughter. Funeral arrangements are pending.
