"We believe the gaming industry is ripe for consolidation, and we see Shuffle Master as playing a part in that consolidation," said Joseph Lahti, chairman of the casino-industry supplier that is planning to move its headquarters to Las Vegas.
"We will seriously explore and consider all of our options and opportunities, but we can make no assurances what the outcome of this activity will be," he said.
Gaming analysts said Shuffle Master is more of a candidate for a merger into another industry supplier than an acquirer of other companies.
International Game Technology and Anchor Gaming are seen as the most likely consolidators among gaming-equipment suppliers because they have large liquid assets and little debt.
