The Missouri Gaming Commission approved the Victorian Star, which will bring an estimated 800 jobs to the city.
The Kansas City Star reported this is the first gambling company to win permission for off-river riverboat construction since voters approved a constitutional amendment Nov. 3 allowing riverboat casinos to operate from artificial basins as opposed to real rivers.
Officials hope to open the casino by January 2000. It would have 1,000 slot machines, 60 table games, two restaurants, a local history museum, a park, amphitheater and public plaza area adjacent to downtown Boonville.
