Bail has been reduced to $50,000 for a 17-year-old charged with murder in the shooting death of her ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend June 28 at a home where a group of teens had gathered.
District Judge Donald Mosley on Wednesday reduced the bail from $100,000 for Amalia Boyer, who was 16 at the time of the shooting at 4537 E. Cool Valley Dr., near Bonanza Road and Lamb Boulevard.
Mosley had denied a motion to release the teen-ager on her own recognizance after Deputy District Attorney Ed Kane argued that Boyer had called the home shortly before the incident to make sure Riki Jemison, 18, was there.
Kane said witnesses testified at a court hearing in August that Boyer walked into the home without saying a word and fired a bullet into Jemison's head. Two more shots were fired into the victim's buttocks as she lay mortally wounded on the floor.
Boyer waited outside the home until police arrived.
Kane said the gun belonged to Boyer's father.
The boyfriend suffered abrasions after he jumped through a window when the shooting began, authorities said.
Boyer has pleaded not guilty to the charges that could put her in prison for life, and a trial has been set for May 17.
