Letter: Time will reveal truth of implants
Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998 | 11:34 a.m.
It really comes as no surprise that they would side with the only implant manufacturer who currently stands to lose big-time in its ongoing settlement with 170,000 claimants.
If silicone doesn't cause disease, why have all the breast implant manufacturers, including Dow Chemical, decided to settle with their victims?
The only issue really at stake here is how much Dow Chemical will be forced to pay their 170,000 claimants, and how many smart claimants and attorneys will hold out to sue for big-time cash, which the sick women well deserve. Dow's current puny offers for settlement are ridiculous.
The "landmark panel's" findings that silicone implants are safe are a tragic disgrace to our nation. The harm they will do to future implant recipients is irreparable.
When science and medicine catch up to the truth, long after all claims are settled and the dust finally clears, the court-appointed panel's findings will become the laughingstock of the world.
