Orlando Solar Bears 6, Las Vegas Thunder 0

ORLANDO--Hubie McDonough scored two goals and assisted on a third as the Orlando Solar Bears (13-10-0) blanked the Las Vegas Thunder 6-0 Saturday at Orlando Arena. A crowd of 9,324 saw the Solar Bears snap a two-game skid. McDonough scored both his goals in the first period, at 2:57 and 16:56, sandwiching Allan Egeland's fifth goal of the year to leave the score 3-0 at the intermission. Kirby Law and Pierre Sevigny each had a second-period goal plus one assist. Todd Krygier, who assisted on three of Orlando's first four tallies, capped the win on a third-period power play. Solar Bears netminder David Littman made 31 saves to complete the shutout. Petr Franek started for the Thunder (6-13-3), stopping 22 of 27 in the first two periods. Scott Langkow picked off five of six in relief.

Cincinnati Cyclones 3, Indianapolis Ice 2

INDIANAPOLIS--Gilbert Dionne's power play goal 3:56 into the second period gave the Cincinnati Cyclones (14-9-2) a 3-2 win over the Indianapolis Ice Saturday before 5,237 at the Pepsi Coliseum. Jeff Shevalier paced the Cyclones with a goal and an assist, and Fred Knipscheer scored his second goal in as many games since being traded from Utah for former Cyclones Captain Don Biggs. Defenseman Chris Joseph, who leads the Cyclones with 29 points, picked up his 18th assist of the season. The Ice (11-10-3) fell behind by two goals in the first 3:52 of the game, but tied the score before the intermission. Remi Royer took advantage of a hooking penalty on Burt Henderson to cut Cincinnati's lead to one, and team scoring leader Dave Hymovitz netted his 13th of the year. Frederic Cassivi turned away 28 of 30 Indianapolis shots to post the win in goal. Marc Lamothe stopped 22 of 25 for the Ice.

Milwaukee Admirals 3, Fort Wayne Komets 0

FORT WAYNE, Ind.--The surging Milwaukee Admirals (12-7-5) posted their third straight win Saturday, shutting out the Fort Wayne Komets 3-0 in front of 5,980 at Memorial Coliseum. Jeff Nelson snapped a scoreless tie with an unassisted goal 16:23 into the second period, then assisted on Brad Smyth's insurance tally at 17:16 of the third. The Komets pulled goalie Bruce Racine after Smyth scored, and Mark Mowers sealed the win with an empty-netter less than a minute later. Goalie Chris Mason made 32 saves to give the Admirals their first win of the season over Fort Wayne. Racine turned away 22 of 24 as the Komets dropped their sixth in a row.

Detroit Vipers 3, Grand Rapids Griffins 2

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--Peter Ambroziak had a goal and the game-winning assist in the third period to lead the Detroit Vipers (12-6-4) past the Grand Rapids Griffins (9-12-2) Saturday night, disappointing a sellout crowd of 10,834 at Van Andel Arena. Kory Karlander won the game by scoring at 12:42 of the third period. Stan Drulia spoiled a promising start for the Griffins, netting his fourth of the season 45 seconds after Gaetan Royer gave Grand Rapids their only lead of the game. Andrei Vasilyev also scored for the Griffins, who had won four straight coming into Saturday's game. The Vipers held Grand Rapids to only 18 shots, 16 of them stopped by goalie Kevin Weekes. Neil Little took the loss with 29 saves on 31 chances.

Chicago Wolves 5, Kansas City Blades 1

ROSEMONT, Ill.--After giving up their fastest game-opening goal of the season, the Chicago Wolves (14-6-4) rebounded to beat the Kansas City Blades 5-1 Saturday before 8,811 at the Rosemont Horizon. Steve Maltais sparked the second-period comeback with goals at :41 and 13:02, as well as an assist on Steve Larouche's game-winner at 4:47. Maltais and Larouche both finished with three assists. Chris Marinucci, who added a power play tally at 8:14 of the second period, also had an assist. Tim Breslin rounded out the Wolves' scoring at 11:13 of the third. Jason Cirone got the Blades (9-12-2) off to a fast start, beating goalie Pat Jablonski 47 seconds into the game. Jablonski stopped Kansas City's other 17 shots. The Wolves pounded Blades netminder Brian Leitza with 49 shots. Leitza made 44 saves.

Houston Aeros 6, Cleveland Lumberjacks 3

HOUSTON--The Houston Aeros (17-3-4) edged back into the Southwest Division lead with Saturday's 6-3 win over the Cleveland Lumberjacks (8-11-2) at the Compaq Center. The Aeros recovered from an early slashing call on Greg Hawgood by taking a 1-0 lead on Brent Hughes' shorthanded goal 1:10 into the game. Hawgood came out of the penalty box to make the score 2-0 at the 3:32 mark, but it took Mike Yeo's shorthanded goal at 12:59 to give Houston the period 3-2. The teams traded second-period goals, starting with Mark Freer's game-winner at 11:34. Rob Valisevic and Mark Lamb padded the win in the final stanza. Brian Wiseman assisted on three Houston goals to give him a league-leading 34 points. The Jacks scored on three of only 17 shots -- by Xavier Delisle and Jason Bonsignore in the first period, and Jason Ruff in the third. Houston goalie Manny Fernandez finished with 14 saves. Mike Tamburro stopped 26 of 31 for Cleveland.
