Las Vegas Thunder 3, Orlando Solar Bears 1
ORLANDO--The Las Vegas Thunder (6-12-3) snapped a five-game losing streak with Friday's 3-1 win over the Orlando Solar Bears (12-10-0) at the Orlando Arena. Scott Hollis scored the winning goal at 16:43 of the third period, 16 seconds after Orlando's Todd Krieger was sent to the penalty box for elbowing and roughing. Patrice Lefebvre, who assisted on the deciding tally, also set up defenseman Drew Bannister's second goal of the year, which tied the score 1-1 in the second period. Russ Romaniuk iced the win with an empty-netter three seconds before the final buzzer. The Solar Bears led 1-0 at the first intermission, after Mark Beaufait's eighth goal of the season, but were sluggish on offense for the rest of the game. Orlando took only 16 shots, 15 of them handled by Thunder goalie Petr Franek. David Littman stopped 20 of 22 in goal for the Solar Bears.
Milwaukee Admirals 5, Cleveland Lumberjacks 3
CLEVELAND--Five different players scored as the Milwaukee Admirals (11-7-5) defeated the Cleveland Lumberjacks (8-10-2) 5-3 Friday before 8,465 at Gund Arena. Defenseman Doug Friedman won the game with his eighth goal of the season, 11:09 into the second period. After playing to a 2-2 first period tie, the Admirals pulled away with second-period goals by Matt Henderson, Friedman and Brad Smyth. Goalie Chris Mason came up with 11 of his 28 saves, and the Admirals defense killed four penalties, to keep the Jacks at bay through the scoreless final frame. Jason Bonsignore paced the Cleveland attack with goals in the first and second periods. Brett Harkins also scored. Jesse Belanger assisted on all three tallies, Dave Baseggio on two. Jacks goalie Mike Tamburro faced 29 shots and made 24 saves.
Grand Rapids Griffins 4, Fort Wayne Komets 3 (SO)
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--Joe Frederick had a goal and an assist in the third period, then scored the winning shootout tally, to lead the Grand Rapids Griffins (9-11-2) past the Fort Wayne Komets (7-6-6-) 4-3 Friday night. A crowd of 10,336 watched the game at Van Andel Arena. The Griffins, who won the tiebreaker 3-1, trailed by a 3-1 margin with 19 minutes left in the game. Frederick's sixth goal in four games cut the Komets' lead to 3-2, and Radim Bicanek tied the score on a power play at 12:29. Bicanek also assisted on Darren Rumble's power play goal early in the second period. Eric Boguniecki had two power play goals for the Komets, at 15:20 of the second period and :20 of the third. Brad Purdie scored the only goal of the first period. Griffins goalie Ian Gordon stopped 17 of 20 shots in regulation, and four of five in the tiebreaker, to post his second straight shootout win. Bruce Racine turned away 26 of 29 for the Komets.
Detroit Vipers 2, Indianapolis Ice 1
AUBURN HILLS, Mich.--The Detroit Vipers beat the Indianapolis Ice 2-1 Friday in front of the first sellout crowd of the season -- 20,804 -- at The Palace. Peter Ciavaglia scored the winning goal 17:41 of the second period, 1:09 after Indianapolis defenseman Marc Dupuis had tied the score with an unassisted tally. Mike Prokopec put the Vipers on the board at 14:19 of the opening period. The Vipers' defense held the Ice to just 14 shots. Goalie Kevin Weekes made 13 saves to preserve the win. Andrei Trefilov stopped 35 of 37 for the Ice.
Manitoba Moose 4, Long Beach Ice Dogs 2
WINNIPEG--Jason MacDonald scored twice and assisted on Patrice Tardif's game-winner to lead the Manitoba Moose (16-3-3) to a 4-2 win over the Long Beach Ice Dogs (18-7-0) Friday in front of 7,274 at the Winnipeg Arena. MacDonald has four goals in his last two games. The Moose have won seven straight, and have pulled within a point of the league-leading Ice Dogs.. Tardif scored at 9:50 of the second period, less than a minute after the Ice Dogs' John Bylsma was whistled for high-sticking, and assisted on MacDonald's first goal, 4:28 into the game. Jan Nemecek scored at 10:21 of the first and assisted on Patrik Augusta's power play tally at 14:19 to help the Ice Dogs take their only lead of the game. Michael Stewart equalized for the Moose at the 17:52 mark. Winning goalie Richard Shulmistra made 31 saves to defuse the Ice Dogs' 33-19 shot advantage. Ryan Bach stopped 16 in goal for Long Beach.
Cincinnati Cyclones 4, Chicago Wolves 1
ROSEMONT, Ill.--Fred Knipscheer scored in his first game since being traded from the Utah Grizzlies, and the Cincinnati Cyclones (13-9-2) went on to defeat the Chicago Wolves (13-6-4) 4-1 Friday before 5,916 at the Rosemont Horizon. Knipscheer's power play tally gave the Cyclones a 1-0 lead 5:15 into the game. Kaspars Astashenko netted the game-winner at 16:18. Unanswered second-period goals by Chris Joseph and Gilbert Dionne put the game out of reach. Tim Breslin scored the lone Chicago goal, unassisted at 11:34 of the first period. Winning goalie Jani Hurme, formerly of the Detroit Vipers, faced 41 shots in his first start for the Cyclones, making 41 saves to post the win. Chicago's Pat Jablonski stopped 26 of 30.
Houston Aeros 3, Kansas City Blades 2
KANSAS CITY--Jeff Christian's power play goal 17:26 into the third period gave the Houston Aeros a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Kansas City Blades Friday before 6,371 at Kemper Arena. Larry Dyck started the Aeros' comeback from an early 2-0 deficit, with assists from Mark Freer and Blake Sloan at 18:52 of the second period. Brian Wiseman tied the score at 12:39 of the third. Goalie Frederic Chabot made 28 saves as the Aeros (16-3-4) were outshot 30-19. Dave Chyzowski and David Ling each finished with a goal and an assist for the Blades (9-11-2). Kansas City netminder Patrick Lalime finished with 16 saves.
