Brief: City selling casino to tribe
Monday, Dec. 7, 1998 | 11:33 a.m.
The city of San Pablo stands to gain $3.5 million a year by selling the cardroom to the Lytton band of Pomo Indians, who could bring video gambling machines to the east San Francisco Bay area town.
Under the deal, the tribe would own the casino and Ladbroke/USA would manage it. Neither side would disclose the selling price Friday.
If the sale is approved, the tribe would seek an agreement with the governor allowing it to operate a casino similar to those run by other tribes in California that offer video gambling machines.
The landless Lytton band hopes the deal will generate income to help it buy land and provide health care and housing for its 200 members.
