Letter: Younger generation needs clean slate
Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998 | 9:24 a.m.
Sooner than we think, we will turn over the leadership of this world to those we now refer to as "kids," and whatever we can give them in the way of a reasonable education will only benefit the generations to come. The more we confuse them by our current antics, the more we undermine whatever chance they have of clearing the mess we have created.
We in the over-50 class have grown numb to the sins and sinners of the world, and generally push the "off button" when enough is enough. If minds are sponges, ours have long ago become saturated. Young minds are not as fortunate.
It would be to the media's credit that, during this holiday season, it would call a truce to the unnecessary rehashing of a president's wandering libido, the exploits of those in power who make a mockery of what our country stands for, and those who appear to grow wealthy by committing wrongs.
This is not meant as a suggestion to bury our heads in the sand, because the facts will continue to their brutal end, but more a request for an intermission for only a brief few days.
