Letter: Other side of the coin should be noted

There have been so many times in the last three months that I wished I lived in a development with an association. When my husband and I bought our home in the northwest part of town (near Lone Mountain Road) 3 1/2 years ago, it was a cute, quiet area with a lot of families and a real neighborhood feel. I thought we would want to stay forever. After spending $25,000 to improve our house, we both feel now that we want to sell.
Why? In the last few months HUD has bought more than 10 homes in a small community and has been placing low-income families in these homes. (I think it's wonderful that low-income families are given the opportunity to own a home.)
But in the same breath the neighborhood is looking terrible. Unkempt landscaping, tires and batteries scattered in front yards, junked cars leaking motor oil all over driveways and streets and noise from loud music constantly. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that because of the HUD situation this has happened. But it has added to the problem, along with people who rent, and homeowners who just don't care. (I feel trapped.)
Councilman Larry Brown's office has helped me out with what they can, and I thank them, but there is no control in what was a great place to live.
