Storm dumps up to 2 feet of snow in Sierra

The latest round of winter on Monday was accompanied by blustery winds that made for miserable driving conditions for motorists.
"It was my most unfortunate idea to take the scenic route today," said Karen Dufresne, who was visiting the area with her boyfriend from England, Wayne Lawson.
"That's the last time she chooses the route," Lawson said as he put chains on his tires.
Chains or snow tires were still required early today on mountain roads around Lake Tahoe, including Interstate 80 over Donner Summit and U.S. Highway 50.
Snow fell at about 1 inch per hour Monday night at Truckee, Calif.
The storm dampened the Reno-Carson City area with rain, but predictions of snow on the valley floors failed to materialize as temperatures remained above freezing.
The forecast called for lingering rain and snow showers to give way to partly cloudy skies by later today.
But another storm brewing in the Pacific could bring a wet and colder storm to the region by the weekend, the National Weather Service said.
