Store owners question effectiveness of new law

The system went into effect Monday.
Brad Craddock, manager of the American Shooters Supply and Gun Club, said the new system takes a couple of hours to clear someone. The electronic system is linked to a federal computer that checks for previous felony convictions, mental illness, dishonorable military discharges or domestic violence convictions.
Craddock said he doesn't think the new law will hurt sales. He said criminals targeted by the law likely never bought their guns legitimately in the first place.
"And the vast majority of people think it's an inconvenience, but they don't mind if it keeps the, uh, scum from getting guns," he said. "But those people don't deal with us anyway. So the general feeling is, it's just another nuisance."
