A Metro Police officer who threatened suicide during a two-hour standoff with police has been placed on paid administrative leave.
The officer, on the force a year and a half, was apparently distraught over a recent break-up in a relationship when she began threatening her life shortly before midnight Sunday, said Officer Steve Meriwether, department spokesman.
Henderson Police initially responded to the home in the 3100 block of La Mesa Drive, near Pecos and Warm Springs roads, and attempted negotiations. Henderson called for Metro's assistance about 30 minutes later. The officer's young daughter walked out of the house about 1 a.m. as Metro's Special Weapons and Tactics team began arriving. The woman peacefully surrendered to SWAT an hour later.
The officer was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospital for observation. She will remain on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation, Meriwether said.
Authorities declined to release the woman's name.
