Atkinson Gates to seek another term

Atkinson Gates said she wishes to serve one more four-year term, then leave office.
Atkinson Gates was elected in 1992 and has been chairwoman since 1995.
She was found guilty of ethics violations in connection with the awarding of airport concession contracts and efforts to start a frozen daiquiri business at Strip hotels.
She has fended off two efforts by a citizens group to trigger a recall election against her. She said the failed efforts prove the depth of her support.
"I believe I still have work to do, and when it is done, I will leave," she said Monday.
