Meteor lights up pre-dawn sky over Reno
Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998 | 1:58 a.m.
Reno photographer Marilyn Newton said she was taking a walk when the fireball with a tail of orange flame streaked across the sky around 5:30 a.m.
"It was absolutely beautiful," she said.
Scientists at the University of Nevada, Reno's Fleishmann Planetarium said the sighting was most likely a meteor skipping along the earth's atmosphere.
They added there was no evidence the space object hit the ground.
