Letter: Paycheck protection initiative explanation doesn’t cut it

Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998 | 10:12 a.m.

I think he has blown a gasket like that wacko "Today I'm for paycheck protection, tomorrow I'm bought and paid for" Chuck Muth is so fond of saying.

Excuse me Mr. Mason, have you ever heard "fool me once -- your fault -- fool me twice -- it's my mistake"? Believe me sir -- you won't fool us twice.

Does he really think that we would give him more money for paycheck protection after he told 80,000 voters that their vote didn't count, that their opinion didn't matter, and that he, and he alone, would decide if and when the initiative got on the ballot?

He'll be lucky to get the time of day from anyone that ever put trust in him. The only thing that he will get from me, or anyone I know, is a demand for his resignation. He certainly doesn't represent the party members. He only represents himself and his personal interests as he proved when he pulled that pre-party endorsement against the wishes of the party.

Already, several county parties have demanded his resignation. When do you think he'll get the message? If he hasn't got it yet, maybe he will get it now: John: We don't want you -- give us your resignation -- not your bull.

The only job he's suited for is stand-up comedy. Maybe he should send his resume to Harrah's or just stick to Nashville; that is where he is most of the time anyway. Perhaps the country bumpkins fall for his antics, but in Nevada a man's word is his bond. I'm afraid John's credit stinks.

Let's put it this way. Hopefully, the few pieces of silver Chuck and John took for rolling over were worth it. As I see it, it is time for them to mosey on to the next unsuspecting suckers before they get kicked out of Dodge.
