Woman pleads guilty to bilking elderly Lake Tahoe man

Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998 | 9:24 a.m.

Margaret Venus Loeo, 25, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one felony count of obtaining money under false pretenses.

Her plea came as her trial was about to begin in Douglas District Court. Sentencing was set for Oct. 5.

Loeo also paid $10,000 toward restitution to Anthony Brusca, 82, who lost more than $225,000 in the swindle.

Authorities said Loeo used promises of affection and companionship to bilk Brusca out of his life savings.

Loeo's ex-husband, Steve Milo and his mother, Doris Yonko, also were charged in the case. They earlier pleaded guilty to misdemeanors and have paid back about $110,000 to the victim, authorities said.

Investigators said the three were part of a multi-state gypsy gang that cheats elderly men out of their money.
