Letter: Taxpayers pay for government business, not monkey business
Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998 | 10:07 a.m.
I do not make a habit of writing letters to the editor, but I must make an exception. I support the actions of our president toward leading our economy. I gladly accept the responsibility of paying his salary to conduct government business, but not monkey business.
If any taxpayer were to be determined having sexual relations at work, while on the clock, especially in the employer's building, he would be fired. He would be shown the door, canned, dropped like a hot rock, because it is not acceptable behavior to do such things at work.
Censure would not be an option. Termination would be the result to both parties. Our tax dollars cut deeply into our living wages. If one of my employees used their position to entertain their prurient interests, I would find that completely unacceptable. Clinton should be no exception.
As first lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton should not only provide support for her husband, but also serve as a role model for our youth. She could show that Bill's behavior is not acceptable to any woman, let alone his wife. That would show true leadership.
Ken Starr is ruthless, but he is an attorney. The Clintons are attorneys, too, but I know of no one who would request a passive lawyer to pursue their cause.
