Letter: Separate transit system needed for senior citizens

Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998 | 10:08 a.m.

At this time it is set up for handicapped persons. They are saying that planning a new system is essential because of the need of many seniors living in Clark County.

They are planning a paratransit system that would deviate from the three-day request and scheduled routes, as it is set up now. They are having a meeting (hopefully) to suggest another option: to provide a separate service strictly for the elderly.

Let us hope that this will happen, because it seems to be the only way to go. They have finally hit on a system that will work for all concerned. I can't see that seniors, in their 70s and 80s, will be forced to use that CAT bus.

Last week, while waiting for a bus, a stone was thrown at me. It was thrown by a homeless man on crutches. He got mad at someone, and I happened to be there. So all you seniors who are finding problems with this system, get in touch with your councilman or councilwoman.
