Dan Bennett, president of Friends of Midas, said the group received a "generous" donation from Les and Bev Matson to help in the effort.
"We wanted to give something back to the community," Bev Matson said. Added Les Matson, "Hopefully this will encourage others to give to this project, too."
The Matsons own the Midas Saloon and Dinner House.
Bennett said the project could take three to five years to complete and will include displays of old mining equipment, a blacksmith shop and a tool shop.
