Letter: IBEW bosses shouldn’t spend union cash on personal agendas
Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998 | 5:11 a.m.
Most offensive is the fact that the IBEW bosses financed the ad with union dues ($10,000), deducted from the wages of working men and women for collective bargaining -- not political purposes -- to save their own skin.
The union bosses need to wake up to the fact that the working stiffs understand that with deregulation comes competition and lower rates. While the leaders of the unions may be socialists, the people that keep the bosses fat love enterprise, capitalism, and free trade -- along with the rest of the principles upon which this country was premised.
America is regulated to death. I applaud the Legislature in its enlightened decision to deregulate the industry. The union members that paid for, but did not sign, the ad should think about a little fat trimming. I suggest starting at the top.
If this state's so-called Republican Party had any guts they wouldn't have bailed on the Paycheck Protection initiative. Given the chance to vote on the issue, we could have sent our own message to the morally bankrupt union leaders: "Stop using our union dues to finance your own political agenda or get your resume updated."
