Letter: President’s address classic example of ‘Clinton speak’

Friday, Aug. 21, 1998 | 10:09 a.m.

Aug. 17 was a slow day for the news.

Suddenly last Monday, the "Wheel of Fortune" made a wrong turn and "Real TV" was replaced by dissecting a four-minute confession by our man in the news. "Entertainment Tonight" was a scene out of Heartbreak Hotel direct from the White House.

The dialogue was like that of a Sunday school teacher telling the kids about the birds and the bees. Some people call it "Clinton speak."

Even third-graders understood. What bothers me most is not whether the president used legalese to avoid the consequences.
