Weekend Update: Music, Theater, Etc.

Bluegrass on the grass -- The Marty Warburton Band is the opening act for bluegrass group Salamander Crossing on Sunday at Jaycee Park, at Eastern and St. Louis avenues. The 4-year-old, amphibian-named band plays a combination of bluegrass and contemporary folk music. Bring picnic baskets to the free 6 p.m. concert.
Blast from the past -- "Sh-Boom," a free, outdoor musical-comedy revue, featuring songs of the 1950s and '60s, will be presented Saturday from 8-10 p.m. in the Fountain Courtyard at the Green Valley Town Center, 4500 E. Sunset Road. The event, sponsored by American Nevada Corp. and Henderson Parks and Recreation Department, is part of the Green Valley summer concert series.
Classics act -- The works of Ravel and Beethoven will be featured Saturday as part of the Las Vegas Music Festival Orchestra Grand Finale. The concert will be conducted by Evan Christ. Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance, at UNLV's Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall, are $10. Call 229-6211 for information.
Theater
Creepy comedy -- The latest installment of Super Summer Theatre at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is the off-Broadway success "Little Shop of Horrors." The musical follows a nerd named Seymour, the love of his life, and a blood-sucking plant. Bring picnics to the 8 p.m. performances, which take the park's outdoor stage Wednesdays through Saturdays through Aug. 29. Call 594-PLAY for ticket information.
Dance
Boogie shoes -- The Las Vegas-Clark County Library Theatre, 1401 E. Flamingo Road, will host "Out of the Blue: Great Things Happen," a dance production presented by the Helene Gregory Talent Center Dance Studio, on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8; call 451-1666.
Calling all kids -- The Rainbow Company Student Ensemble is holding auditions for youngsters ages 10-18 to work in all aspects of theatre training. Ensemble members are required to attend meetings on Monday nights in addition to their production responsibilities, and to enroll in one Rainbow Company class each season. Auditions begin at noon on Saturday at Reed Whipple Cultural Center.

This and that -- Antique furniture, glassware, jewelry, toys and paper items will be among those for sale at the Summer Antiques and Collectibles Extravaganza at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 Water Street. Dealers and collectors from eight states are expected to display their wares. Admission to the show -- open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday -- is $4.50 for adults; $4 for seniors; children under 12 are free.
