Myron Martin has been named director of the Performing Arts Center of UNLV, Dr. Jeff Koep, dean of the College of Fine Arts, has announced. The UNLV Performing Arts Center is incorporated as a unit of the College of Fine Arts.
Myron Martin brings a rare combination of artistic sensibility and business acumen to the position," Koep said. "We conducted a thorough national search lasting a year. I'm pleased that we found someone of Martin's capability. I am convinced we have found the ideal executive for the Center."
Martin's career includes 15 years with the Baldwin Piano Company in New York City, where he served as director of the Concert and Artists Division. His clients ranged from Billy Joel and George Shearing to Michael Feinstein, the Boston Symphony, and the renown Tanglewood Music Center.
For the past three years, Martin served as executive director of the Liberace Foundation, where he led a national scholarship campaign and directed more than a million dollars in grants to schools involved in the arts. He is on the board of the Nevada Museums Association and is a member of the National Society of Fund raising Executives.
"I see the Performing Arts Center as the cultural heart of southern Nevada and a wellspring for community enlightenment," Martin said. "The Charles Vanda Master Series and the Barrick Lecture Series have became a vital part of Nevada's cultural history. I am proud to be a part of these extraordinary programs and hope to build on this foundation. The Center offers us the potential ... and the possibility ... to further enhance UNLV's image as a premiere urban university."
Martin received an MBA in Marketing Management from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He also holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of North Texas.
The UNLV Performing Arts Center is home to the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall and the Judy Bayley Theatre. This season will feature, among others, the New York Philharmonic, the Russian National Ballet with a full-length version of "Sleeping Beauty," the St. Petersburg State Symphony, Kennedy, the St. Louis Symphony, and the Orchestra of the Royal House Covent Garden.
