Practice ballots can save time

Friday, Aug. 14, 1998 | 11:09 a.m.

The Clark County Election Department wants to remind voters to carefully read and mark their sample ballots before arriving at the polls this election season.

The sample ballot was mailed to all voters this week, and provides an easy way to review the offices, candidates and questions being voted on. The ballots also can speed up lines at polling places.

Pollworkers can scan the bar coded sample ballot, instantaneously retrieving the voter's registration information and signature. Voters that identify who they wish to vote for on the sample ballot are in and out of the booths very quickly, said Kathryn Ferguson, registrar of voters.

"Well-prepared voters serve to streamline the entire voting process, creating a pleasant experience for everyone involved," Ferguson said.

The sample ballots include instructions on how and where to cast the ballot, and a schedule of early voting sites. The ballot also provides a map of the location of the voter's election day polling place.

Voters who have not yet received a sample ballot or who would like additional information are urged to call the Clark County Election Department at 455-VOTE.
