Letter: VA Board of Appeals without compassion
Friday, Aug. 14, 1998 | 11:28 a.m.
Nevada has representatives, appointed by the Governor, to the Nevada Commission for Veterans Affairs, who work very hard to help through the pitfalls and traps when making an appeal. My thanks to Monte Wilson who is helping me with my appeal at the present time. Go to the VA Clinic for an eye opener.
Now for the sequel to my story. I have had an ongoing dispute with the VA Board of Appeals for more than 38 years. Before that time I had a 30 percent disability rating for my service incurred illness.
Then some VA official decided that I was too well and they took away my entire disability rating. My family was young at the time and needed protection so I applied for additional life insurance because I was too sick and a poor risk.
Ironic isn't it. One branch of the VA said that I was too well for disability; at the same time the other said that I was too sick.
I feel that the VA Board of Appeals is just another government agency without any compassion that is trying to discourage and deny as many claimants as they can. Either that, or the VA is hoping that we die.
